October Dividends

October has always been a rough month for me for dividends. However, led by my first Leggett & Platt dividend there was some significant growth this year. Three companies paid me a total of $8.80. It's not much but it's better than last year's $5.40. I will take it because even baby steps is movement in the right direction.

LEG   $3.20
O        $3.86
TIF     $1.74

Recent Buy XOM

Story of my life. I wish I waited a day for a slightly greater discount. But I grabbed 3 shares of XOM for $69.90 on Monday. Though has been taking a beating short term We are talking about now over a 5 percent yield for an oil Giant with a 36 year record of dividend growth. Sure the payout ratio is a little high at 75.7 percent. Yes the company is at the mercy of the oil market and this is administration. But the stock is trading at a discount right now. In terms of finances they actually beat expectations recently. There are concerns about their outspending their profits. I believe this is a temporary issue as they seek to replace production. As a long term investment I don't believe Exxon is going anywhere and is worth taking a small flyer at this discounted rate.
